The GOSPEL TRUTH
LETTER OF

CHARLES G. FINNEY

1868

To Edward Payson Marvin

9 February 1868

[MS in Finney Papers, Box 7]

Edward Payson Marvin (1834-1913) was a Presbyterian minister in East Lockport.

Oberlin 9th Feb. 1868.

Rev. E. P. Marvin.

Dr. Br.

Yours of the 27th inst is recd

It found me confined to my bed.

I am now just able to sit up &

write a few lines. I have been engaged

this winter in writing the work to

which you refer. I have long de[c]lined

to do it, but have at last yielded

to much intreating, & done the best I

could. It may not be published whilst

I live. I look hopefully upon the

prospects of the Church. We shall

have a great struggle, but it is

just what the Church needs.

I must not write more at

present. God Bless you

C. G. Finney

A blot on the paper partly obscures the day of the month, but it would appear to be a 9.
